Post-Release. 4th International Private Label Show (IPLS)

The 4th International Private Label Show (IPLS), the only exhibition of contract manufacturing and private labels in Russia & CIS, held on 5-6 April, 2017 in Moscow, Crocus Expo, shares its results.

In 2017, IPLS presented to its visitors the new format: Exhibition + Retail Connect Summit + Private Label Awards. Totally, the show engaged over 2,700 attendees including professional visitors and exhibitors which took part in the show in 2017.


During 2 days 1,900 professional visitors have come to IPLS, including representatives of retail, wholesale, distribution companies, HoReCa, online retailers, brand owners, airlines, international companies, exporters and importers from Russia & CIS which found suppliers ready to create their own brands. The visitors got insights, observed novelties, obtained useful information about the market, shared their experience with colleagues, and participated in the show's business programme.

73% of visitors are principal decision-makers about private labels, 90% of them participate in negotiations with suppliers about private labels. Geography of visitors includes Russia and such countries as including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Ukraine, etc.

The show's main visiting sector is retail chains. From year to year, IPLS brings into one place store brand managers of over 200 largest chains from all over Russia & CIS. 64 retail chains which regularly visit the show and participate in its activities, became IPLS retail partners, the list includes FMCG chains with a universal product range, as well as specialized drogerie, drugstore chains, chains of perfumery and cosmetics, apparel & footwear, household & DIY, electronics & home appliances, children's goods, etc. Among IPLS 2017 partners are Metro Cash and Carry, Azbuka Vkusa, Auchan, Globus, Carousel, Perekrestok, Dixie, Victoria, Lenta, Monetka, SPAR, FZS, Leroy Merlin, Sangi Style, Stroydepo,, Obuv Rossii, Alpari, Fix Price, Zaodno, Ulybka Radugi, Drogerie Union, Zenden, Eldorado, Ulmart, Rigla, A.V.E., Samson-Pharma, Doctor Stoletov and many others. Their representatives held negotiations on long-term cooperation on private label, met with their partners, visited the conference, took part in other exhibition events (Awards, Gallery, etc.).

141 manufacturing companies from 19 countries took part in IPLS. The exhibitors came from Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Spain, Poland, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. The IPLS participants represented leading private label factories, plants with own free capacities to load with clients' own FMCG brands. Many of these companies consider contract manufacturing as one of the strategic priorities of their businesses.

The participants exhibited products in over 180 food and non-food categories, held negotiations on the terms of production, packaging and logistics of customers' brands, demonstrated capacities, innovations and technologies allowing creating competitive goods with the best price-quality ratio, and solutions in the field of packaging. For the first time, IPLS featured the Special Sector of Egyptian contract manufacturers of FMCG brands.

The long-awaited premiere of the programme became the Retail Connect Summit, which combined three components:

  • Private Label Conference – 250+ delegates and 25 speakers participating during 2 days in a live discussion format in the sessions cut-out for their needs.
  • On-site matchmaking – 592 Face-to-Face 2 day meetings with key decision makers from retail chains.
  • High-tech online tools allowing the participants to create the most convenient schedule of appointments, and to submit their initial proposals ahead of appointment time.

At the Analytical session of the Conference experts from the leading research companies RBC Market Research, Euromonitor, Nielsen Russia, GfK Rus, Tochka Rosta shared the private label market trends and forecasts in Russia, and described consumer preferences in various categories.

At the Manufacturers vs. Retailers Roundtable there was a live discussion on the retailers' plans for the development of private label, problems occurring to manufacturers, quality control issues, pricing and cost-reduction policies for both parties. The speakers were the representatives of chains Auchan, SPAR, manufacturers Ontex, Afanasiy, as well as the heads of industry unions and regulatory bodies Rusprodsoyuz, Roskachestvo.

As a part of the Packaging & Design session, the leading Russian brand agencies Depot WPF and Jos De Vries, as well as the packaging manufacturer CentrUpack held a series of workshops for the creation and packaging of the first class brands.

At the Session on private label strategies in non-food retail formats the specialised drugstores, drogerie, fashion retailers and their manufacturers shared their most interesting cases of successful collaboration during private label launch in their specific formats.

The Conference was followed by the matchmaking part of the Retail Connect Summit during which the delegates held 592 private meetings with buyers from 29 retail chains. All participants of workmate programme had an opportunity to participate in the workshop "How to hold effective negotiations on private labels" given by a business coach.


On April 5, for the second time at IPLS an annual ceremony of Private Label Awards (by IPLS) 2017 was held. 17 retail chains and 3 manufacturers became the winners and received prizes and awards for achievements for the quality and affordability of private label goods. 14 companies entered the list of laureates. Over 25 recognized experts from associations, supporting the exhibition, leading brand agencies, and research agencies took part in voting and ceremony itself

At the very center of the exposition, visitors might observe Private Label Gallery - a special area where 35 international, federal and regional retail chains showed 80 product lines of their best private labels.

Visitors and participants received the official print edition of the Private Label Digest 2017 – the annual show guide on the contract manufacturing and private label market, containing interviews with retailers, manufacturers, experts of private brands creation, market analytics and insights, catalogue of companies.
